Tennis Anyone? This year’s US Open tennis theme is “75 years of breaking barriers,” celebrating Althea Gibson and the anniversary of her stepping on the court at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, N.Y. While WOL may not be around for 75 years, we are starting a new tradition by heading to the US Open on Tuesday, August 19th (which is part of the first week of qualifying matches, and better known as Fan Week), as grounds admission are free prior to the start of main-draw singles action, and we can watch qualifying rounds “up close and personal” as we enjoy the grounds. However, if you’d like to participate in any special events while there and give aways, YOU HAVE TO SIGN UP TO GET A FREE FAN TICKET at Hub | Get ready for Fan Week! - US Open or https://fanpass.usopen.org/hub . Also, for those diehard tennis fans, this year, the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship will also take place during opening week, but it will be a paid event. These matches will be played in Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong on Tuesday, Aug. 19th and Wednesday, Aug. 20th (starting at 11am; grounds open at 10am). Many top singles players will be competing for a $1 million winner’s purse, and it a great way to see the top players compete, as these tickets are MUCH cheaper than regular tournament tickets (including courtside seats). If interested, log onto the Ticketmaster site and buy tickets. Otherwise, plan on enjoying the qualifying matches, some practice matches and the spectacular grounds! We will plan to meet at the fountain – initially at 10:30am and on and off during the day. Feel free to bring friends and colleagues with you. It’s a great way to network before the tournament begins. There are phone chargers there (for those still trying to work), and of course dining, shopping and the infamous Honey Deuce in a signature cup.
Please sign up (it’s free) with WOL HERE and let me know if you have any questions at [email protected] |
