Presented by Dr. Dawn Graham, Career Director for Wharton’s EMBA Program in Philadelphia
This Women’s Network sponsored event is open to all Beacon Members and Guests – Men & Women!
Personal Networking: Science, Strategy & Success
It’s often NOT a lack of know-how that prevents individuals from networking, BUT RATHER the seduction of deeply ingrained biological processes and a preference to do just about anything else with your time.
In this session, learn how the brain often prevents capable professionals from engaging their network to its fullest, strategies for conquering these obstacles and how to use psychology to your advantage, as well as tips and exercises to overcome some of the more common challenges of ensuring your networking efforts are a success!
Dr. Graham’s presentation will delve into 4 common networking stumbling blocks.
- BRAND TRACES: Examine the way that you leave “brand traces” throughout your work/life and determine if it’s the message you really want to be sending. Identify how you can communicate your brand more effectively in everyday situations.
- LIKABILITY (the magic bullet): understand how emotions play into human decisions, what likability is and why it matters.
- FAIRNESS (it doesn’t exist): Examine how the brain conforms, why loss aversion gets in the way and strategies for combating it.
- WORK THE ROOM (and stay in touch): Learn strategies for introverts / non-networkers in large group situations and the role of habit in terms of how to stay in touch after the initial meeting.
